ConAgra Foods Plant, Boardman, OR
This 525,000 square foot potato-processing manufacturing plant project included an addition onto an existing facility, and both buildings needed to be considered for LEED certification. Using specialized credit tracking tools and expertise, Paladino provided LEED management services throughout design and construction, in addition to energy modeling and commissioning. Paladino worked with the team to determine and implement requirements for achieving a baseline of LEED Silver.
Paladino’s key role was to predict the energy savings for process loads of the manufacturing plant. The project was challenging for a number of reasons: there were no standing precedents in the industrial world at the time; and multiple parties had to be tied together for a comprehensive understanding and alignment of the facility’s energy saving needs.
Based on Paladino’s energy modeling tools, a comprehensive catalog and compilation of energy uses was created, which provided the client with a clear and complete picture of where energy was being used within the facility. Paladino was able to point out optimal areas for strategic energy savings, which drove the rest of LEED pursuits including changes made to achieve water, office and administrative efficiencies.
Energy modeling results drove the client’s LEED pursuits.
