Pedra Branca Development Company has made a commitment to sustainability and is demonstrating this commitment through the creation of Cidade Pedra Branca as an iconic, green community. The Pedra Branca development is a 270-hectacre mixed-used smart growth neighborhood in Florianópolis, Brazil, that consists of multiple building types and scales. The project is pursuing the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® for Neighborhood Development certification and each building type is also pursuing a LEED® rating. Paladino collaborated with the owner to develop a Sustainability Master Plan to be applied at the site, block and building scales.
As part of the first task of this project, Paladino organized and led a visioning session with the Pedra Branca team to establish program goals, programmatic elements and design strategies, and to make the business case for the sustainability strategy the team proposed to incorporate. The outcome of this process was used by the team to generate a Sustainability Master Plan and other programs to ensure sustainability strategies are firmly embedded in the project processes.
