It's Eco-Friendly: ShoWare Center Gets Major Environmental Award
Paladino and Company collaborated with the City of Kent, WA and LMN Architects on the design of the ShoWare Center, a new multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility that recently received LEED Gold certification.
This designation makes ShoWare Center the first sports arena in North America to achieve such a rating. Initially the design team was targeting a LEED Silver rating, but because of a tremendous commitment by the entire team, the project earned enough points for Gold.
ShoWare Center's sustainable features include premium parking for fuel-efficient vehicles and carpools; low-flow water fixtures that will save more than 40% water when compared to similar facilities; native landscaping that doesn't require watering; and a system that uses excess heat generated from the ice-making equipment to warm the ground under the rink to maintain the integrity of the foundation; among other strategies.
