Pedra Branca Selected for Clinton Climate Initiative Program

The Pedra Branca development in Florianópolis, Brazil, was selected as one of 16 founding projects of the Climate Positive Development Program, a Clinton Climate Initiative.

The program supports the development of large-scale urban projects that demonstrate how cities can grow in ways that are “climate positive.” Climate Positive developments strive to reduce the amount of on-site CO2 emissions to below zero.

Paladino worked with the Pedra Branca to develop a Sustainability Master Plan and other programs with a goal of achieving LEED-ND certification and a LEED rating for each building. Strategies to become Climate Positive include clean energy generation, integrated waste management, energy-efficient lighting strategies, integrated water management, green and efficient buildings and transit-oriented design.

The Climate Positive Development Program will support the planning and implementation process for each participating development and establish standards and metrics by which the sites can measure their outcomes. When the 16 projects are complete, nearly one million people will live in Climate-Positive communities.
