ShoWare Center Wins Green Washington Award - Seattle Business Magazine
ShoWare Center, the first sports arena in North America to achieve a LEED Gold certification, was honored with a 2010 Green Washington award at Seattle Business Magazine’s annual dinner to celebrate green businesses in Washington state. The jury selected the City of Kent’s ShoWare Center because of its comprehensive, integrated approach to sustainability that took into account everything from construction waste to light pollution.
Paladino worked with the City of Kent and LMN Architects to integrate sustainable features into the design, including premium parking for fuel-efficient vehicles and carpools; low-flow water fixtures that will save more than 40% water when compared to similar facilities; native landscaping that doesn't require watering; and a system that uses excess heat generated from the ice-making equipment to warm the ground under the ice rink to maintain the integrity of the foundation.
