Paladino and Company at Northwest Harvest

On January 29, 11 volunteers from Paladino and Company spent the afternoon at Northwest Harvest’s Cherry Street food bank, packaging food for distribution to clients. Northwest Harvest is a statewide hunger relief agency that, in 2009, distributed over 24 million pounds of food to more than 300 food banks, hot meal programs and elementary schools across Washington. The event was organized as part of Paladino’s Global Green AmbassadorsTM giving program, established to further the company’s mission to create a more sustainable future for our communities.

The Paladino volunteers were put to work dividing food and dry goods that were delivered to the warehouse in bulk into manageable family-sized packages. Items included rolls of toilet paper, bagels, tortilla chips and sheets and towels (in separate packages, of course). The team had fun establishing an assembly line system to pack the goods as quickly as possible, astonishing one Northwest Harvest staff member who said he had never seen volunteers work so fast. Northwest Harvest depends heavily on volunteers, who give 66,000 hours a year to keep its food distribution network running. Paladino is glad to have been able to contribute to that impressive tally and to their mission of making abundant, nutritious food available to everyone in our state.
