City of Seattle LEED Portfolio Performance Evaluation
In 2005, The City of Seattle initiated a study of the performance of LEED buildings within the city limits. The purpose of the study, performed by Paladino and Company, was to evaluate the impacts of different green building strategies and gain insight to make informed decisions about policy and incentive programs, using predictive data from LEED applications. Recognizing the value of the study would increase over time as more LEED buildings were completed in Seattle, the city worked with Paladino to develop a tool so that the LEED portfolio could be easily analyzed on an annual basis. The tool allows the City to understand what strategies are being commonly implemented in LEED buildings in Seattle, what opportunities may being missed due to outdated code, and which strategies have the greatest impact on Seattle’s carbon and sustainability goals.
