Paladino consultant Brad Pease presented a session about Centre City Green, San Diego’s downtown sustainability plan, at the Sustainability 2012 conference in Vancouver, British Columbia.
CCDC is the public, non-profit corporation created by the City of San Diego to staff and implement Downtown redevelopment projects and programs. Centre City Green includes a green overlay to the city’s Community Plan, a private green building incentive program, and a Green Streets program. The master planning process involved a wide array of stakeholders: local government, community activists, business owners, real estate developers and professional associations.
Brad, the green building consultant on the project, described the development process, addressing the drivers; the stakeholder engagement process; identification of roles, responsibilities and boundary; relationship to existing regulations; and final framework for implementation, documentation and enforcement. The presentation included discussion of obstacles encountered and lessons learned.
