Eco Charrettes

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
Our team of LEED Accredited Professionals offer a variety of training opportunities
(see our Events Calendar):

  • Brown Bag Lunch & Learns: dynamic, interactive discussions in the convenience of your own office
  • Design Seminars: scheduled events elegible for continuing education credits
  • Roundtable Discussions: open-forum dialog with regional experts

SOFTWARE MODELS
New performance goals need new tools to achieve them. Using desktop software, we link spreadsheets, databases, and web publishing in a variety of applications, putting the right information to work for you.

CASE STUDIES
We research the latest green building projects and evaluate their performance, incorporating relevant studies into our presentations and recommendations.

ECO CHARRETTES
What is an Eco Charrette?
"Eco Charrette", a term we coined in the mid-nineties, establishes a framework of sustainable design for a project. An Eco Charrette is a highly interactive event that generates ideas and works toward consensus from an audience integrating diverse project experts in building design, construction, operations and finance.

The Purpose of an EcoCharrette
The purpose of a Paladino & Company Eco Charrette is to establish a path to success for the project design team in achieving sustainable development goals. For many in the building industry, understanding performance benefits, setting design targets, and identifying critical tasks for sustainable building are new steps. Shaping this process is the single most critical aspect of developing a green building approach.

How an Eco Charrette Works
Participants in the Eco Charrette often include the owner’s representatives, neighbors, user groups, educators and members of the design team, including architects and engineers. We act as facilitator in leading the project design team in exercises that draw upon peer experience and expertise while focusing on the new project. Through an interactive brainstorming session, ideas are captured for further discussion.

The development team balances these ideas with standard design relationships including cost, benefit, payback periods, constructability and other practical considerations. An Eco Charrette offers professionals a comprehensive understanding of sustainable elements in the context of overall project considerations.

Paladino & Company Eco Charrettes can generate hundreds of sustainable ideas

Our staff prepares for an Eco Charrette through tailored research to determine potential sustainable design elements. At the ouset, we introduce preliminary green design strategies and an overview of the LEED Green Building Rating System. The entire team then discusses, evaluates, and narrows the range of sustainable ideas. A Preliminary LEED Scorecard captures the relative level of green building activities that may become part of the project.

Often an EcoCharrette generates over 100 sustainable ideas. We prepare an Eco Charrette Report to summarize and group these ideas into the 5 LEED categories. In combination, the Eco Charrette Scorecard and Report guide task assignment for effective sustainable design.

Outcome
A Paladino Eco Charrette generates a framework for cost-effective sustainable development by facilitating collaboration with key stakeholders. Green building strategies are initiated, analyzed and prioritized for implementation through technical and leadership support. An Eco Charrette provides a path along which to pursue sustainable strategies leveraging standard development processes.
