With seven years of experience in architectural design as well as technical building systems, Jill’s interests lie in sustainable urban environments and working with integrated teams to conceptualize and deliver high performance buildings. Jill supports project teams by preparing LEED documentation and applications, leading contractor training presentations and performing daylighting and ventilation analyses to optimize building performance.
Her graduate thesis focused on the design of an intermodal high-speed rail station in Riga, Latvia. The gateway station was an architectural solution conceived as part of a larger urban analysis to unify two city districts severed by existing elevated railway infrastructure. Sustainable urban strategies incorporated along the 15 block urban revitalization plan included increased street life through cultural and retail development and historic preservation, in addition to expanding opportunities for pedestrian and public transportation access. At the building scale, the intermodal hub integrated passive ventilation and natural daylighting. Jill worked with urban planners and architectural designers in Latvia, Denmark and Germany as an International Valle Scholar through the University of Washington.
Jill is also an active volunteer with the Seattle Chapter of Architects without Borders. Most recently she served as the lead designer for the conceptual and schematic development of a vocational and middle school in San Miguel Escobar, Guatemala. The project is scheduled to start the first phase of construction in Spring 2010.
