Tell us about your background and what led you to Paladino.
I’ve always had a passion for architecture and design, so no one was surprised when I chose to study Interior Design & Art History at Washington State University. After college, I began my green building career in 2015 as a Sustainability Consultant in San Diego, CA, specializing in energy efficiency and green building for multifamily mixed-use construction. I’ve spent most of my career in Southern California, but I chose to relocate to Seattle to join the Paladino team and be closer to family.
Where do you find inspiration in your work?
I’m inspired whenever I meet other people who are passionate about sustainability! For me, sustainability is not just a career choice, but a lifestyle. Finding new ways to safeguard the planet is absolutely worth the effort. I’m also encouraged whenever friends or family reach out for advice on sustainable alternatives because it shows that more people are looking at their impact on the environment, plus my efforts win them over have paid off!
What direction do you think green building is headed? Where do you see the industry in ten years?
I see more of a focus on carbon savings as a metric for building performance over energy or water savings and more consideration for wellness in the built environment. We already see this shift happening, however, I expect to see this on a larger scale over the next 5-10 years.
What role does sustainability play in your life outside work? What does it mean to you?
Sustainability is a broad concept, but I believe it means living with intention in my day-to-day life. I’m mindful of how I can practice sustainability with everything I do, purchase, eat, wear, etc. This ranges from using public transportation and eating more plant-based meals to reducing waste and buying my clothes from ethical, slow-fashion brands.
What do you do in your leisure time?
I spend my free time doing anything that allows me to express myself creatively! I love to cook, paint, sew, and dance, among other things.
What are three things you can’t live without?
Music, food, and my family.
