WASHINGTON, DC, August 12, 2019 – Paladino and Company and Federal Realty Investment Trust accepted the Innovative Project of the Year: Neighborhood Development on behalf of the Pike & Rose project team at the 17th annual A Midsummer Night’s Green & Community Leader Awards, hosted by USGBC National Capital Region.
Pike & Rose is one of only two LEED ND Stage 3-certified projects owned and developed by a U.S. REIT, and one of only 18 LEED ND Stage 3-certified projects in the world.
Standout sustainability program at Pike & Rose includes an impressive variety of strategies. Notably, the site is designed to be walkable and pedestrian-friendly; the rooftop garden hosts a farmer’s market and offers a biophilic benefit; the parking garage has a significant solar array, and FRIT has implemented green cleaning policies and sustainable pest management for all areas that they control.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the sustainability outcomes at Pike & Rose, thanks to the contributions of the integrated team,” said Tom Paladino, CEO and founder of Paladino and Company, the sustainability consulting firm for the project. “FRIT continues to demonstrate what is possible when the owner links their sustainability program to their business values, and Pike & Rose sets a new bar for master-planned developments.”
Upon full buildout, Pike & Rose will consist of 450,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, more than one million square feet of office space, 1500 residential units, and 250,000 square feet of hotel space on a 24-acre site that is walking distance to the White Flint station on Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Red Line.
“Earning this important certification demonstrates Federal Realty’s commitment to improving performance and creating a more resilient and sustainable future by minimizing our environmental footprint through energy and resource-efficient buildings,” said Ronald J. Becker, CRX, CSM, Vice President National Operations & Sustainability, FRIT. “As leaders in the industry, we believe we have a responsibility and an opportunity to positively impact our communities, employees, investors, tenants, and the environment, which are all critical components to long-term success.”
Paladino joined more than 300 attendees from across the DC metro region to celebrate the Pike & Rose project win along with the other 2019 Midsummer Night’s Green & Community Leader Awards. The event honors the innovative work in the region and also supports USGBC National Capital Region’s programming and mission to create a greener, healthier for all.
