We’re proud of The Tower at PNC Plaza, lauded as the world’s greenest high rise office tower. A lot of this pride is rooted not only in the result of the work, but the way we worked.
The Tower’s collaborative team was recognized today by Building Design + Construction as a Gold-level winner of its Building Team Awards. The award honors projects that best exemplify the collaboration between owner, architect, engineer, consultant, and contractor to produce buildings that exhibit architectural and construction excellence.
The honorees of the project team that led The Tower’s integrative design process includes:
Owner: The PNC Financial Services Group
Engineer: BuroHappold Engineering
Sustainability Consultant: Paladino and Company
Contractor: PJ Dick
The competition was stiff, and the Building Team Award judges were thoughtful in their selection. Here’s what they had to say about The Tower:
“This high-performance, sustainable-design building did a great job blending both passive and active systems for harvesting daylight and natural ventilation, while providing collaboration and interaction for people at the interior,” observed Gary Keclik, AIA, CSI, GGA, LEED AP, Principal of Keclik Associates and a Building Team Awards Judge. Keclik points specifically to the mockup as “an outstanding example of team cooperation that minimized budget and schedule impacts.”
“PNC Tower is the epitome of sustainability and energy-efficiency innovation,” said Building Team Awards Judge Josh Greenfield, PE, REP, CEM, BEMP, LEED AP BD+C, O+M, Vice President/Energy Services Group Manager, Primera Engineers. “It sets the bar very high—33 floors high—with respect to high-performance high-rise design and construction.”
Through effective and ongoing collaboration, our team built something that no one had ever before imagined. Through Abundance thinking, the team ensured that the project resulted in something lasting, impressive, and game-changing. By setting a lofty goal for an experienced team, we helped PNC redefine what was possible.
“We are grateful to have had this experience and the opportunity to collaborate with this highly motivated and phenomenally talented team,” said Vice President Brad Pease. “Thank you to BD+C for this recognition.”
